I'm wondering if this promo version has ever made it in digital form... anyone know?

Yes. Strip the opening piano up until the plink right before the "Stay for just a while" lyric and you have the stock 45.

I don't think I've ever heard this shorter remix/edit.
I've only heard the stock 45-rpm version played on the
radio in 1980. I've searched YouTube. Does anyone have
a link to this edited version anywhere?
Cheers,

A number of years ago I provided Tom Daly with a copy of
my promo 45. I found the file he sent me when he cleaned
it up. This will certainly show you how it sounds.

Wow! I can 100% confirm I had never heard that before. That’s quite
the over zealous edit: I’d think the stock single was good enough for
radio. The overdub was jarring (likely because the song came out
when I was 10 - yet it took until I was 51 to hear it)

Thank you so much for sharing it.

Because the two edit points are in different keys.

In the part he re-sang, Neil shifted the line through the
key change in a way that would make the edit work.
