I know that the Rhino collection, "Just Can't Get Enough - New Wave Hits of The 80s" is deeply respected on this board, both for excellent sound quality and the right edits of singles.

My question is this: are there any tracks from the collection that you would recommend avoiding, either because of inferior sound quality or because it's not the correct single version?

Are there are any tracks that are presented in their commercial 45 version that have a different radio mix / edit?

I started replacing tracks in my library with tracks from this collection and got to wondering if I could end up overwriting a "better" version I already had.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

One that immediately comes to mind is "One Night In Bangkok," which uses a vinyl dub for the first 35 seconds or so.

Turning Japanese - The Vapors
She Blinded Me With Science- Thomas Dolby

I have both US 45s, and they do not match what's on this CD series.

The New Wave Hits contains the DJ 45 edit. is your 45 the
commercial 45 or a promo DJ 45? This was my source for the
DJ edit and was just wondering if you've found an
incorrect edit or other issue.

I've compared both songs from this series to the actual US retail 45s.
Turning Japanese has more content on the CD than on the 45. The 45 label
does say (Edit) after the title, you can clearly hear where the 45 was edited
from the CD version. As for She Blinded Me With Science, the CD has a
different intro, and it does not have the "...if a girl ever blinded me with
science". Also the CD version has a cold ending, whereas the US 45 goes
past that point with a slowly faded out synth drum beat.

The version with the cold ending is the DJ edit. I don't think I ever heard the commercial 45 version until I actually bought it.

Here's pretty much all of my notes for the full 15-CD series.

Songs in green are either the actual version in my library, are a digital clone of the version of what I use, or are close enough to my first choice that you wouldn't notice a difference.

Songs in red are not my first choice, for a variety of reasons. Some run shorter than the 45, some a mastered a bit loo loud and I found a quieter version with comparable sound and no clipping, a few are taken from vinyl, and a handful have their left and right tracks slightly out-of-synch, which leads to a warbly sound when summed to mono.

Songs in black indicate that I haven't done any A/B comparisons. I would most definitely go with these versions for the black tracks, if that's all you have at your disposal.

Let me know if you spot any errors.

Kiss Me by Tin Tin from volume 8 sounds to me like it may be from vinyl. Anyone else think so?
