In 1985, my station switched to a promo 45 remix version on this after a few weeks. It features an :08 synth intro, and both runs and is listed at (4:18). Whereas the stock & initial promo 45 says "Produced by Sting and Pete Smith", this remix says "Produced by Pete Smith and Sting - Remixed by John "Jellybean" Benitez for Jellybean Productions, Inc. Remix Engineer: Michael Hutchinson. Deadwax says "AM 02765-A ES1." The first one has "AM-02738-A-ES-2". All of us who heard it always thought this remix v was far superior - but us loudmouth DJs always prefer a longer intro anyhow!

Right you are Jim and I have just entered a comment in the database about that rare dj 45. Unfortunately, that version has yet to appear on cd in the US anyway. I went ahead and timed the dj version that states (4:14) on the label and it runs a little short of that at (4:12). Does anyone have the commercial 45 that they can time as Joel Whitburn has it listed as running (4:08) in his Pop Annual book. What is the stated running time on the commercial copy?

Stated running time on the stock 45 is (4:14); actual run time (4:12). Exactly the same timings that you had for your DJ copy, Pat. Who's taking Joel out to the woodshed this time?

That remixed version that appears on 45 is an edit of the commercially released 12" that runs exactly 8:00. Does anyone know if the remixed 45 was actually issued commercially? I have a copy that was assigned the catalog number AM 2765, and comes in a picture sleeve identical to the original 45. The only difference is that it says "SPECIAL DANCE REMIX" in the upper right hand corner. There are no markings or indication that this was promo only.

The number cut in the deadwax of my copy is AM 02765-A M2.

I pulled out my "Stax-O-Wax: The Directory Of American 45 R.P.M. Records", looked up A&M 2765, and it DOES in fact list a second stock 45 release of the Sting 45 for that #, in addition to the more common A&M 2738. Nice work, Jeff!

Thanks Jim! It was a lucky find. Found it in a used record store bin for $1. Pressed on good quality vinyl unlike my first copy with the original version, which is on styrene.

Pat, you may want to update your db with Jeff's recent find of the remix 45 also appearing on a commercial 45.
