I assume their version of the Diana Ross hit was a single-only release at the time, because I didn't see it listed on any of their albums on Discogs. It's listed on several VA comps, with various different running times. A promo 45 exists with a long version on the B-Side, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows if the single or extended promo version exist anywhere on CD. I have this strange feeling that at least some of those appearances on the VA comps might be re-recordings. Thank you for any help with this. I'm also surprised that this song has never been on any of their compilations.

Their version was actually released on the same day as
Diana Ross' version. It's believed that Motown only put
out Diana's recording of "Love Hangover" because The
5th Dimension had recorded it for single release and
they didn't want an outside record label having the hit
with their artist's song.

Of course, Diana's version of it was the big number one
hit and The 5th Dimension didn't even crack the top 40
(peaking at number 80), which was quite an
embarrassment for their hot streak and is probably why
it's not on any of their compilations.

I don't think the flipside, "Will You Be There", has
seen a proper digital release either.

It's about time there was a "Complete Singles"
compilation for The 5D.

There is a three disc singles CD compilation that Real Gone Music released at the end of 2016. That compilation omits this song for two reasons. It only covers 1966-1975 plus the "Love Hangover" 45 was released on the ABC label (when the vocal group was no longer on Bell).

Just in case it ever gets a CD release... My white label 'Promotion Copy', ABC-12181, lists 'Long' as 5:46, and actual 5:44. The other 'A' side does not designate it as 'Short' but lists as 3:40, and actual 3:41. -Bill.
