Hi there all you 45 version experts! Got some questions that I hope you can provide me with solid answers to concerning a number of songs where I have multiple versions...seeking to determine which ones the 45s were. Here they are!

Bee Gees - Nights on Broadway. Is the 45 sped up from the LP version resulting in it running about 10 seconds shorter, even though it fades at the same point?

Chuck Berry - Sweet little Sixteen. Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual 1955-1994 book shows this 45 as running 2:35, yet the "fast" version I have runs 3:00 while the slow version runs 3:10.

Buchanan Brothers - Medicine Man. How does the 45 start and end? The version on Collector's Essentials: The '60s and has a complete bass intro and ends cold.

The Cadets - Stranded In The Jungle. I have a version with jungle sounds on The Golden Age Of American Rock'n'Roll and without on Rock'N'Roll Era - 1956. Which one is the 45?

Bobby Lewis – Tossin' And Turnin'. Did the 45 contained the intro, and what was its timing? How long at the end did it run before it faded (longer than the common stereo version?)

Monkees - Valleri. Does the 45 fade or end cold?

Clyde McPhatter - Lover Please. I have a verison with reverb (echo) on The Golden Age Of American Rock'n'Roll Vol. 6 and one without on Hard To Find 45s On CD (Volume 2) 1961-64. Which one 45?

Me thinks you do not have a copy of Top 40 Music On Compact Disc as most of these questions are answered in the book. Let me answer #1 and #2 for you as a tease for what you will find in the book.

Nights On Broadway was sped up for 45 release and the only cd that has applied this speed correction is Polydor 843911 Tales From The Brothers Gibb. All other domestic cd's present this song at the LP speed.

Sweet Little Sixteen -- the time on the 45 states 2:35 but that is incorrect as the true running time is 2:58. In fact both the 45 and LP were sped up and run around 2:58. The song was originally recorded at a slower speed (about 3:10) and both the speed corrected version and the original recording speed version are readily available on cd.

The 45 was sped up. I prefer the natural recorded speed.

The 3:00 version is correct.

As I recall, the 45 starts with an edited bass line intro and fades...

The original 45 has the jungle sounds.

The 45 version does not include the intro. I believe the fades are the same.

The original 45 is wet [echo] and is more compressed than the Stereo mix.
