Unfortunately, the "45 version but longer" CDs with "Galaxy" by War are actually "neither." When comparing the 45 version with Best Of War and More, the CD has an extra 0:08 from 3:30 to 3:38 that is removed on the 45. There is another extra 0:16 from 4:04 to 4:20 on the CD that is not present on the 45.

Yes, it can be extracted from the version on Best Of War and More if you edit out the sections mentioned above and fade just a few seconds earlier.

i just created the proper vinyl 45 version using the
instructions aaron provided....the final version runs 4:14
and matches the vinyl 45 length even though the label
states the time as 4:18, it actually runs 4:14.....if
anyone would like a copy of my handiwork, send me and
email or pm....

At long last, I have acquired a promo 45 for this song. And it seems to
answer the question of exactly where the (4:04) version of this song came
from. Both sides of my mono/stereo promo 45, confirmed as MCA 40820,
have a listed time of (3:59), but an actual time of (4:04). Deadwax info: mono
side "MC 6909-M-CS-2"; stereo side "MC 6909 CS-2".

Jim,

Just curious...Ed mentions that his commercial 45 runs 4:14
yet your promo 45 runs 4:04. Just wondering what the 10
second
difference is.

John, I can't speak to what Ed's 45 version sounds like. Aaron already has a
dub of my stock 45 "on file". My copy runs (4:17), however, not Ed's (4:14).
But rest assured, my friend, whenever we discover new stock/promo 45 info,
we basically go into "investigative mode" automatically, at this point.
Especially now, that so many song/version cases have already been solved. A
dub of Ed's copy can quickly be gotten, if it turns out that Ed has "the only
known (4:14) length Galaxy stock 45 in history!!!!"    :)  I promise there will
be a follow-up post for you, as soon as time allows.

This is an excellent discovery, Jim! Currently, there is no information in the database about a 3:59 (actual 4:04) promo version, nor has this short edit shown up on any database CDs.

i just re-timed my commercial 45 and it's condition is less
than great.....and, to my ears it runs 4:14.....it's
entirely possible the faded in intro and outro are drowned
out by the surface noise of the vinyl.....so my times are
probably not the most accurate...

Thanks for the (4:14) explanation, Ed.

I know exactly what you mean, about extremely loud surface noise issues.
Every one of the very few bad timings I've ever submitted (most notably my
(2:55) submission for "Brown Eyed Girl") came because my *only* actual
1967 copy sounded like a frying pan with six slices of raw bacon just placed
inside of it - especially at the end. Even mega-sticklers like us have no
chance to hear through all that, without software to help, when such sub-
standard vinyl is used by a label to press up their stock 45s.....
