This was a staple on my local Top 40 station - 98
WGRD, Grand Rapids, Michigan - in the summer of 1994.
The station played a version with an instrumental
intro. The 1994 compilation "MTV Party to Go - Volume
6" features the official "Clean Version" with a
similar instrumental intro that WGRD played. Note that
the WGRD instrumental intro version features the synth
sound half way through the instrumental intro, whereas
"MTV Party to Go" does not. WGRD also played the full
length version, not the short "Clean Version", as
featured on that compilation. Does anyone know if an
official promo CD was issued for this "instrumental
intro" version? Or, was it a station exclusive?

I've included a link below with a 55 second clip of
that instrumental intro from 98 WGRD's "Pepsi Top 9 at
9" and the first 30 seconds of my recreation. (The
WGRD clip runs quite a bit faster than my recreation.
Either the cassette is running fast, or everything was
sped up on the station back then - thinking that it
was the latter). Just curious if anyone else heard
this same version and if it is official. Thank you.

It wasn't ever issued on an official promo CD, so I'd say it's likely an in-house edit.

Thank you, Aaron. I figured as much. I know that a lot
of stuff is on Discogs, but I thought that maybe someone
had a promo CD with this "instrumental intro" version
(not listed on Discogs).

At first, I thought you were referring to the "Jammin'
Remix" which included samples from Michael McDonald's "I
Keep Forgettin'" (and removes the final verse), but this
definitely sounds like an in-house edit as Aaron said.
