Mono CD appearances of Christie's "Yellow River" run 2:41, while stereo CD entries range from 2:44 to 2:46. I'm wondering if the 2:41 time is reflective of the mono vinyl 45, while the longer stereo times are reflective of the vinyl LP release. Any corroboration of my theory is appreciated!

I only have a promo 45 of this handy at the moment, Todd. Both sides are mono, both feature "Yellow River", and both have a listed time of (2:44) and an actual time of (2:43).

The actual LP running time is (2:45).

Couple of things to add on this song:

I found that the commerical 45 had at least two issues, one is record number 5-10626 with matrix number ZSP 153831 (1E added on trail) with a label time of 2:40 but a run time of 2:43. I'm guessing there was a DJ copy with this matrix issued. (note that the B side has a matrix of 153832, leading me to believe that this is the first issue of this record)

The other is also record number 5-10626 but with a matrix of ZSP 153899 (2A added on the trail), with a label time of 2:44 but a run time of 2:43. B side has the same matrix as the first 45.

Although the run time is the same on both, the 2:40 label version runs at a faster pitch and sounds muddier than the 2:44 label version.

The mix on the 2:44 labeled 45 doesn't really sound any different, it just sounds like equalization and compression was added to bring up the vocal to make the song less muddy, and for whatever reason runs at a slower pitch.

My LP copy has a label time of 2:45 and runs 2:45. It's slightly slower than the 2:40 labeled 45 and faster than the 2:44 labeled 45.

I also have a DJ reservice 45 with the 2:44 label time and matrix JZSP 153899-2 (2E on trail) and it's identical to the 2:44 stock as far as I can tell.

So unless I'm wrong the comment on this should read:

DJ and stock copies were issued with times of 2:40 and 2:44, 2:40 labeled copies were at a faster pitch, but all copies run 2:43.

Thanks for all your well documented details, Bill!

I wonder if any of the mono CD appearances running 2:41 consist of the faster pitched version?

I have the Eclipse CD Rock N Roll Relix and the mono version on that CD runs faster than the 2:40 single. I can't really tell if it's the EQ of the first 45, second 45, or a mono fold down of the lp.
