To answer my own question, it's not an early fade. I
found the official video online and noticed there are out-of-sequence edits. |

My earlier suspicions about CDP 722 are finally confirmed. I obtained a copy of this disc, and it has the full-length version, running an actual 5:24. The fade out is long and very quiet at the end.
