...And here they are! I know this next entry isn't listed in the database because it doesn't fully meet Pat's criteria for inclusion, but the song did reach #40 on the Billboard Hot 100...
SIMPLE MINDS - SEE THE LIGHTS (A&M 75021 7546-2) 1) 7" Mix Edit - 3:55 2) 7" Mix (No Guitar Solo) - 3:55 3) 7" Mix Full Length - 4:26 4) LP Edit - 3:52 5) Extended Mix - 6:59 Comments: Commercial single copies run 4:23. VANILLA ICE - PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC (SBK DPRO-05364) 1) (Remix Edit) - 3:21 (not 3:18 as stated on the label) 2) Yo Vanilla - :05 (a snippet of the first :05 of cut 1) 3) (Remix) - 4:40 4) (LP Version) - 4:35 Comments: Commercial single copies run 3:23 and states "remix" on the cassingle sleeve, though it appears to be the same as the Remix Edit on Track 1 of the DJ CD single. Jim has passed along information on a couple more promo CD singles I inquired about earlier in this thread:
STEVIE B - LOVE ME FOR LIFE (LMRCDP 07) 1) Album Version - 5:16 (not 5:12 as stated on the label) 2) Short Mix - 3:44 (not 3:47 as stated on the label) Ed reports his commercial single copy runs 5:16. Also, it doesn't look like there is a shorter radio edit or length issued for "Always and Forever" by Whistle. The promo CD single released on Select SDS 001 contains the tracks: 1) Vocal, and 2) Instrumental, both running 4:38. It appears the Vocal track is identical to the single and album version. Pat:
First, did you catch the DJ and commercial single information for Vanilla Ice's "Play That Funky Music" and Stevie B's "Love Me for Life" in the previous two posts? I ask because I haven't seen any updates in the database regarding those two songs. Second, Jim was once again a great sport to pass along information on two more promo CD singles: MARTIN PAGE - IN THE HOUSE OF STONE AND LIGHT (CDP 1390) 1) Edit - 4:09 (not 3:59 as stated on the label) 2) (no version stated) - 5:00 Comments: My commercial CD single runs 4:58. JON B. - PRETTY GIRL (BSK 6838) 1) Chill Mix Radio Edit - 3:53 2) Album Version Radio Edit - 3:56 3) Chill Mix Extended Version - 5:08 (not 5:13 as stated on the label) 4) Album Version - 4:17 |

Selena "Dreaming of You" (1995)
We had a promo from EMI at my high school radio station that had a "Radio Mix" that ran 4:15. This was among many promos I took with me when I graduated. I no longer have it other than in ripped digital form. It can be recreated from the LP version by cutting out 3:52 - 4:16. It starts with the snare after "...rather be" and ends at the snare before "...tonight". Fade starts at 3:59. By 4:11 song is completely faded. Last distinguishable lyrics are "endlessly". Also, first post. Hi guys! |

Welcome! I have a US promo of "Dreaming Of You," and interestingly, it does not contain the 4:15 "Radio Mix" you speak of. Here's what's on mine.
DPRO-10427 1. Radio Edit (listed 4:15; actual 4:47) 2. Album Version (listed 5:15; actual 5:14) Now I have to try to find the promo with the 4:15 version! Thanks for the tip :) |

Just wondering, would the 4:15 edit just be a much
earlier fade of the 4:47 version? I'd love to know the differences. |

Just checked and sure enough, the video uses the Radio
Mix I mentioned. It is not merely an early fade. The edit ends up having the lyrics say "...I'd rather be tonight...". Fade at guitar. |

Interesting. Guess I missed this thread earlier. I produced an edit of this song that we used on the air that removed the rap. Our MCA rep asked for a dub of my edit that he could use to try and get some regional holdouts to add the song. Jim, do you have this rapless edit? I'd like to compare it to the one I did. I don't recall us ever getting a CD-R reservice of this. Edited by Hykker |

I think I remember comparing Jim's Derry London edit to the Pop Edit at
some point, and I think they are the same. This is not merely an edit, but a remix from the multi tracks that remove Jack Knight's spoken bits. When I have a chance, I'll take a listen again. |
