On the radio and on the "Only Hits" CD, the word "god" is blanked out before the word "damn" in the chorus. I assume on the band's CD it is not. Can anyone verify? If so, the radio version would have to be considered the 'censored' version.

I know in Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't A Scene..." "God" is dropped before the word "damn". Is this the song you mean?
My file, from JonesTM is labeled [Radio Edit] |

I think he's referring to the song "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." I don't own the album, but an online sample of that track confirms that it is not censored on the LP version. The official name of the censored version is simply called "Edit" on the promo CD.

Aaronk is correct. I speak of "I write sins..." it's the band's only top 40 hit so far. Think we'll see them on VH1's One Hit Wonders countdown in 10 years?

One could only hope.
Young audiences have very little connection with artists. There's very little if any artist development at record lables these days. Most of today's music should come equipped with a freshness date like a loaf of bread. Disposable as a loaf of old bread. |

the way it was heard on the radio

My error on thinking the track mentioned was Fall Out Boy.
Seems like a lot of tracks these days push the envelope on lyrics and content. Not like the good ol' days! Thank goodness I get service from JonesTM for my business. The xtra clean edits are quite nice! :) |

I hope they sound better than what plays on the radio. I'll be honest, the practice of "cleaning up" a song for radio airplay by simply silencing the offensive word makes most of the songs sound awful to me. It comes off like the singer has a stuttering problem. I much prefer the way things used to be done, by dubbing a more acceptable word or phrase over "bad word"... ala "son of a gun" versus "son of a bitch" in "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". Though, to be perfectly honest, I'd truly prefer that the artist showed a bit more restraint in their lyrics. And no, I don't support censorship. It's just that, to me, it doesn't really add anything to the song. |

I agree. It certainly would be nice if the artist would take time to re-cut the lyrics for singles that hava a lot of profanity. Muting the vocals is annoying for songs that have lots of cursing; however, if it's only one or two times, I can live with it.

Like Akon, with "I Wanna Love You." I had no idea till I heard the uncensored version that the song was actually "I wanna f*** you." It's sort of... a whole different song.
