my commercial 45, issued as atlantic 3035, states a run time of 2:46 but actually runs 2:42 and matches some of the run times listed in the db.....i have the 2:46 version and i just needed to fade out the last few seconds to get the proper match....this accounts for the differing run times in the db......this should be noted in the db....

Ed, I timed my "Waterloo" commercial 45 a few months ago, and I did report any findings for it, since my 45 has a listed time of (2:46) and an actual time of (2:45). My deadwax info is "ST-A-28815-1".

I thought I'd bump up this thread since neither Ed nor Jim's timing info was incorporated into the database. Meanwhile, the song's CD appearances run from 2:40-2:46.

I only bring up this very minor point for database consideration since Pat typically notes the exact artist credits on single releases... Commercial 45 copies of "Waterloo" officially list the artist as: ABBA (Bjorn, Benny, Anna & Frida) on the record label.

I did not enter a time for this 45 as there seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether the actual running time is (2:42) or (2:45).

Actually, both 45 run times for "Waterloo" are currently entered in the database, so we're okay there. (I suspect Jim and Ed may have two different pressings that slightly differ in length.) My previous post was simply intended to point out the full artist credit as stated on commercial 45 copies (since that type of info usually gets a "released as by" comment in the database next to the song title).

Here are my actual "Waterloo" timings:
(2:45) Plastic Products DJ (stereo side): ST A 28815-4 (2:45) Plastic Products stock: ST A 28815-3 (2:44) Monarch stock: ST A2 8815-5 delta 94665 The Monarch cuts off abruptly, at the same moment the trail-out groove kicks in with a "whoomp." The two Plastic Products pressings sound identical, with the beginning of a extra "whoa" that was lopped off of the Monarch. And none of them were credited to "BBAF" or "FABB." ;) Edited by Yah Shure |

Yah Shure, it's interesting that out of all your "Waterloo" 45s, none of them are on the Atlantic label which issued all of ABBA's singles in the U.S. I realize that song was the group's very first chart hit in America so I'm guessing you obtained some early pressings released prior to ABBA inking their major label distribution deal with Atlantic.
For what it's worth, my copy of Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits 1955-1999 lists the commercial 45 of "Waterloo" on Atlantic 3035 and officially credits the artist as ABBA (Bjorn, Benny, Anna & Frida) |

Just to compare another copy, my Atlantic DJ promo has the listed time of 2:46 and running time of 2:45 on both the mono and stereo sides. A 28815-1 and STA 28815-2. Mono side sounds like a simple fold down of the stereo.
