As far as I can tell, the promotional CD issued in the US for "I Get Weak" features a shorter edit than the commercial single release. Does anyone happen to have this edit who can provide details and possibly share? :)

The LP mix runs about 4:50, and 103.4 BPM throughout; it's a live drummer playing with a click track.
The LP version on Her Greatest Hits (1992) runs 4:50, and sounds just fine to my ears. There are other CDs that use the same analog transfer as Her Greatest Hits:
The promo CD single MCA CD45-17459 (1987) included two unlabeled versions of the song:
There's a homemade edit of the LP mix that mimics the commercial 45 on swaitek's promo 50-CD The A List Disc 41 (1994). I suspect that this was done by TM Century. Avoid. Edited by crapfromthepast |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Thank you for all of the information, crapfromthepast!
My interest has now shifted from the edit to the long version. If anyone happens to have the full 4:40 remix from the promo CD and is able to share I would be so grateful. :) |

I was just going to ask the same question as Michael. Does anyone know the difference between the UK 7" version and US 7" version of "I Get Weak"? They are BOTH being included on the upcoming box set (on the same CD single) so there must be a difference.
Also, what are the differences between the US 45 and US LP? Is it mixed differently, or just edited? |

Here are my two cents. On the US 12" single there is a so called 7"
version on the B side. This is actually a remix created by Shep Pettibone and cannot be recreated using the 12" version, also commissioned to him. This calls for confusion as the exactly labelled 7" version found on the US 7" single and several of her compilations is simply an edit of the LP version. I would be interested to find out if track 2 of this promo CD is this remix, but from crapfromthepast's post, it looks like that is just a different edit of the album version. The 7" remix on the 12" vinyl has the same edit structure used on that second track from the promo CD. Edited by elcoleccionista |

I just checked my Edsel/UK CD "Heaven On Earth", which obviously has the album version but also what they label the 7" version. Since this was released in the UK, I assume that this is the UK 7" version, whether it matches the US 7" or not. So I checked the LP and single version that are both on this disc, and they are the same mix as far as I can tell. But the single is edited and shorter than the album version. That said, the single version clocks in at just a hair over 4:13, and clearly from the posts above, the US single is actually 4:11. So I wonder if this is edited differently, or just faded slightly later.
elcoleccionista, has the B-side of the US 12" - the version labeled as the 7" version but also a remix by Shep Pettibone - been released on CD as of this date? BTW, this "Heaven On Earth" Edsel UK CD has as bonus cuts the 12" version (7:29) remixed by Shep Pettibone, and something called the "Romantic Mix" (6:19) also remixed by Shep. Where this 2nd version came from, in terms of original vinyl, UK or US or otherwise, I have no idea. But timing-wise doesn't sound like the B-side that elcoleccionista describes above. Edison, to my knowledge that 7" version by Pettibone has not been
released on CD so far. I just gave a listen to the Romantic Mix, it is actually previously unreleased and a longer, different mix from that 7" version on the US 12" single. |

With the upcoming belinda collection of "the cd singles 1986-2014" containing "i get weak (7" version)" AND "i get weak (us 7" mix)", let's hope this Shep Pettibone mixed 7" version on the B-side of the 12" version is WHAT will be included on the box set and what is what they're labeling '7" version'. Otherwise, we're getting 2 versions of this song which are (probably) exactly the same except that one is 1.5 seconds longer (which seems somewhat pointless). I don't have the US sv on anything, so I can't compare the single edits, but that's the way it's looking (as far as US sv and UK sv).

OK, I compared the US sv and UK sv of "I Get Weak". (I'm assuming that what's on the Edsel/UK release of the "Heaven On Earth" CD - the bonus cut labeled as 'I Get Weak (7")' is ACTUALLY the UK one and not the US one. And it probably is because the CD was released in the UK.) Comparing these two versions, they are the same edit as each other, the same mix as each other (and the album version). The only difference is that the UK single version is both a little slower and has an extra little bit of music at the end not on the US sv.
For such a minute difference, I'm surprised Edsel would include both versions on their upcoming box set. |
