my commercial 45 for the who song 'call me lightning'
issued as decca 32288 lists the run time on the label as
2:21 but runs 2:22......two of the db entries dump the song
early at 2:19 while the longer running cd 'the magic bus:
the who on tour' runs 2:22.....but is not the same version
as the vinyl 45 version......that cd version is missing the
guitar riffs starting at the 0:37 mark of the song.....the
db should be amended time permitting...

Ed could there be 2 different pressings of the "Magic Bus" cd as my cd runs (2:23) with some hum noticeable at the (2:23) mark and appears to have all guitar parts intact starting at the :37 mark. My cd has matrix number MCAD31333 S88912C. Anyone else notice a guitar riff missing starting at the :37 mark?

Has anybody else come across the "Call Me Lightning" missing guitar overdubs? I checked out Pat's copy and several other CDs and they all feature the guitar riffs.

There are very few CDs that included the song "Call Me Lightning" but the new double CD version of "The Who Hits 50" finally gives us a mono copy of the hit single, without the simulated stereo effect.

Here's what I believe has been issued so far on CD:

Magic Bus: Simulated stereo version which is the single version mucked up into phoney stereo like the vinyl LP(I don't have all issues of this release though)I suppose that makes this the LP version. But I don't have all issues of the Magic Bus CD, it's been released more than once.

Ultimate Who: Simulated stereo version again just like Magic Bus.

30 Years Maximum R&B.. while this is actually a mono mix there are two differences from the single, first it fades too soon at the end, and second the electric gutar is mixed louder in a few places. At around 1:05 or so there is a piano section, on the original single and phoney stereo issues the piano stays on top of the mix and on top of the electric guitar which is mixed extremely low. On Maximum R&B the guitar mixes up by the last piano note and and almost obliterates the piano. There are other sections of the song where the electric guitar sounds slightly louder than the single or simulated stereo issues, so it sounds like the Maximum R&B issue is an alternate mix.

The "Who Hits 50" matches my 45.

To Bill Cahill:

My pressing of 'Maximum R&B' has "Call Me Lightning" in narrow true stereo that widens nicely in my audio software. I think I bought the box set the same day it came out, so it may have been altered at some point.
