UK Top 40 Hits

This is sort of a side topic to our U.S. top 40 hits that we talk about here all the time. I've decided to make a multi-volume CDR compilation series that's basically the UK equivalent of our "Have a Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70s" Rhino series - but for British hits. It's the same concept as ours but with a British twist. I've done a lot of research to hear every (or virtually ALMOST every) top 40 hit in the UK in the '70s over the past few weeks and compiled a 240-song track listing of the UK hits that I want to comprise my series (most of which are unknown to US audiences - but great songs), and I've bought quite a few import CDs to fill in the gaps of songs I didn't have already. Anyway, it dawned on me that a lot of these songs I have for my collection are probably album versions, and if single versions exist out there on CD, I'd prefer to have those. So my questions are:

*Is there a UK book or database equivalent to Pat's? (I tend to doubt it.)

*Is there a UK chat board that's similar to ours, filled with people talking about UK single versions?

*Is there anyone on this board that's quite familiar with UK versions (perhaps even someone who lives/lived in the UK) that could look at my list and tell me of the any songs they know that have single versions or edits?

Yes, please ask your friend David. I have the book you're talking about - but it's the UK equivalent to the Joel Whitburn book that lists the charted singles their peak position and weeks on the chart. (It's actually the book I used as a reference in order to listen to every charted UK hit from the '70s). But it's not the equivalent to Pat's book/database in that it tells no information as to whether a single version exists - and that's what I was asking about.

I've used that for years; unfortunately, it doesn't help with my current quest because you can't really search for songs you don't know exist. But since reading your post, I checked it again to see if I could have it list, say, all charted singles from 1970 (which WOULD include songs a person might know), and it comes up with a list but only the first 50 songs. You'd think it would give you an option to go to a second page of 50 songs, but it doesn't! You only get to see the first 50, and it tells you to narrow your search criteria if you want any others.
