My promo CD single for this (PRO-CD-3152) has two tracks:
1-Edit (listed 4:02; actual 4:09) 2-LP Version (listed 4:35; actual 4:34) |

Both my commercial and promo 45s for this have a listed time of (4:06), but an actual time of (4:09). This is also the exact same timimg that appears on the "edit" version of the promo CD single.

jim...my commercial 45 issued as full moon 27824 states a run time of 4:06, but actually runs 4:09 and is identical to the 4:09 version from the promo cd single.....

Where is the edit on this song? I just listened to a copy of the (what I'm told)
is the original 45, and it sounds like the LP version faded early. |

That wouldn't be the first time a record label used the term "edit" for an early fade. Many of Prince's singles are early fades, while the label will read "edit" on the 45s or promo CDs.

Can anybody confirm the edit is simply an early fade?
(Wow, 1988 has been REALLY difficult to get right!) |

That's a good point. The database still lists the lone CD with "One Good Woman" as having the LP version. If it really is just an early fade, it should probably say "length." Does anyone know?

Oh, yeah. I do have the CD single for this! Lost in the shuffle, for sure.
The 45 version is indeed an early fade of the LP version. If you want to recreate the edit that's on the CD single, first find the downbeat at 3:56, then back up to the first hit in the drum fill, which will be at "1-AND-2-and-3-and-4-and", at 3:54.3 (timing from my CD single - yours may be a little off). Then add a 32-beat fade from 3:54.3 to the first hit in the next drum fill at 4:09.8. I have the CD3, too, and "One Good Woman" is a differently-EQ'd digital clone of the promo CD single version. FYI - "One Good Woman" tops the list of my "great chorus/terrible verses" songs. Right along with "Should I See" by Frozen Ghost... |

Anyone ever notice the sudden pitch change at about 3:14 or 3:15?

Just checked, and there's no pitch shift.
It's recorded with a live drummer playing to a click track, and there's no drift at all in the song. Rock solid 124.3 BPM for the "Edit", 124.2 BPM for the "LP Version" on my promo CD single. |
