Pat,

Just received Sonny & Cher "Look At Us" CD on Sundazed. You indicated that it has the 45 version of "Just You" on it, and that other versions are LP version lyrics but longer.

I a/b'd the 45 version with the version from "The Beat Goes On: The Best of Sonny & Cher", and other than an extra verse from 1:34 to 2:00 and a slightly longer fade, I detect no vocal differences.

I am confused. What is the original LP length/lyrics version and how does it differ from the 45 version?

thanks as usual.

David, you already hit the nail right on the head as you have discovered that the lyrics change starting at 1:34.

thanks. So, the original LP version had that extra bit in the middle, but faded at 3:34 (when Sonny, I think, sings "every day...") while the versions that run 4:04 fade :30 later...

Just to augment Pat & David's LP information above, my commercial 45 has both a listed and actual time of (3:25).

todd was kind enough to send me his mono copy of the 45
version from his import cd titled 'the singles +' and it
runs 3:28 while the vinyl 45 runs 3:25.....so, as with many
many 60's songs, the cd formats are slightly slowed down
versus their 45 counterparts.....this pitch issued is easy
enough to correct, but the vinyl 45 has very slight chimes
on the intro while this cd version that todd sent me has
these chimes clipped off....luckily these chimes on the
intro are on the full length mono cd versions that run
4:04....i will ask todd to do some surgery and i will
report back when i analyze his finished product.....thanks
todd!!!

Ed is correct... At the very beginning of Sonny & Cher's "Just You", a harmonica can be softly heard for a split second before the percussion kicks in. That harmonica is indeed clipped off the song on my Sonny & Cher The Singles + Holland import set, but I was easily able to fix it by splicing in the harmonica from one of the many other CD sources that has it.

Thanks for all the 45/CD analyses you've been contributing to this board lately, Ed. I find it especially helpful when you uncover CD sources that play at different speeds than their 45 counterparts.

Wait so where does the 4:04 version appear originally if not on the 45 or LP? I have the US commercial 45 for Just You and it runs 3:25 and not 4:04.

I hate to bump such an old thread but can anyone shed some light on this for me. I have a commercial USA 45 of Just You bw Sing C'est La Vie and it does not have the longer 4:04 "Single Version". Perhaps one of you with the elusive longer "Single Version" 45's could post the deadwax information so I can compare it to mine? It may be the only way because I believe all pressings listed a 3:25 time
