RUPERT HOLMES - "Answering Machine"
The actual 45 running time is (3:36), the listed time is "3:29" on the record label. (MCA 41235) |

"Answering Machine" has appeared on two database CDs to date, but both run shorter than the 45 at 3:32 and 3:29, respectively. Does anyone have the 1981 vinyl LP release of Rupert Holmes' Partners in Crime who can report to us the run time for "Answering Machine"?

Ooh, one i can actually answer!
Just got it, time on the album label says 3:45 but actual run time is 3:36. I should note, the audio level between 3:28 - 3:36 is so low I had to turn everything way up to get the last traces....it's a long-trailing fade. I could see where whoever was mastering the cd might not have heard it, and just faded it where they thought there was silence. Just a theory. -MM |

Glad you could help, Mark. Thanks!
Your theory regarding the ultra low audio at the end of the song on your LP is certainly plausible as to why the last few seconds may have gotten faded out early on CD. |

My understanding is that the correct 45-LP version running at 3:36 comes from this compilation from the UK.

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."
