Just heard the 2:52 DJ edit for "Magic Man." From what I can gather, it's just an early fade of the 5:27 album track. Fade time is from 2:41-2:52.

There are any number of Heart songs where the promo edit was just an early fade of the commercial single. Others include "Crazy On You", "Barracuda" & "Straight On".
"Heartless" was an edit".

But "Crazy On You" is a slightly different case, in that the stock 45 was an edit of the LP version (much of the opening is stripped off--and used on the 45 version of "Dreamboat Annie"). At least on "Barracuda" and "Straight On" the 45 and LP were the same.

"Dreamboat Annie" was released twice, first as the B side of "Crazy On You", and was the same as the album version. It was re-issued as their 3rd single, this time with the additional guitar riff at the beginning. Not often where the single version is longer than the album. I'm guessing they did this to stretch it since it is a rather short song.

Actually, I documented in another thread that the mono version of "Barracuda," although faded earlier, has a couple overdubs that are not present on the stereo version. The mix is also unique and not just a fold down.

But the single version is an actual edit, right? Some years ago, I received an MP3 of "Magic Man" which was labeled as "45 version" and it contained several edits.

But I have noticed on the "American Top 40" replays on XM, whenever this song comes up, it's always the early fade, so I guess Casey played the DJ edit.

Looking at Pat's database, seemingly the stock 45 and the LP version are the same (and the promo 45 is the fade).

The database currently shows DJ and commercial 45 info for Heart's "Magic Man" as follows:

(dj copies of this 45 ran (2:45) and (5:35); commercial copies were all (5:35); actual time is (5:27) not (5:35) as the dj and commercial record labels stated)

If I may make a suggestion, this could probably be more clearly re-stated as something like:

(dj copies of this 45 ran (2:45) and (5:27), not (5:35) as stated on the record label; commercial copies were all (5:27), not (5:35) as stated on the record label.

I recreated that file so long ago that I don't remember
the source. I think it was a vinyl dub.
