If you don't have the 45 edit on CD but have the album version, here's how to chop it down to a SIMILAR but NOT IDENTICAL edit:

#1 - Take out :08 - :17.

#2 - On your new edit, take out :18 - :27.

#3 - (The only tricky edit) Take out 1:35 - 1:44 on the downbeat. There's no wiggle room here, you're jumping from the end of one lyric right to the beginning of another lyric.

That's it!

HOWEVER...

You will now find you have a file 3:53 in length... not long enough! (That's the only difference I could find.)

The 45 actually fades LATER in the performance than the LP (at least 5 seconds). It's also possible that (believe it or not) the 45 may be slightly SLOWER than the LP... I was working from a video, so no guarantees on that one.

Based on this, I would suggest that the (incorrect) time of the label of the 45 may be a result of timing the edited LP version... it appears for some reason they went back & edited from the original master tracks, resulting in a slightly later fade, but the label was never changed.

I'd love to hear the story behind THAT one! :)

Isn't there also a difference in the final chorus? The single version has one "Let me be the one" that's mixed almost acappella; I think that's missing in the LP version.
