The database entries for this song range from 3:53-3:56 and do not specify any version information.
On Discogs, there is a US promo CD that contains a radio edit with a listed time of 3:55 and the LP version with a listed time of 3:57. How does the radio edit differ from the LP version? The copy in my library runs 3:54 and was taken from a compilation CD. I'm trying to figure out which version it is. |

Promo CD UNIR 21036-2 has two cuts:
1. Radio Edit (3:55 listed & actual) 2. Album Version (3:57 listed; 3:55 actual) Promo Test Pressing has one cut (3:57 listed; 3:55 actual) Edited by Smokin' TomGary |

I'm curious to learn what the difference is too.

Thanks for confirming the actual run times, Smokin' TomGary.
So it appears that both the radio edit and the LP version run 3:55. I'm wondering if maybe there are some revised lyrics in the radio edit? Anyone? |

Certainly nothing offensive in the lyrics. Mix
difference, maybe? |

That's my hunch. I don't have the promo single, but I compared a version from a Promo Only disc (presumably the single version) against the track on Away From The Sun on Amazon Prime's streaming service. Based on this limited approach, I found that the waveform from the Promo Only disc looked a lot fuller/compressed than the album version. Edited by eric_a |

I doubt the mix is enough to warrant a notation in the
database. But, wondering which CD's have the radio edit or mix. |

Turns out I have the lone CD in the database that runs
3:55. Not sure if that means I have the correct mix. |

I've listened to the two tracks on the promo CD (the 'radio edit' and the 'album version') several times, and I remain completely baffled. The only difference I have been able to detect is that the 'radio edit' is two seconds shorter. There must be something else I'm missing.

I don't have my copy of the promo CD handy, but based on the above info, there's not even a 2-second difference. The printed time of the "Album Version" is incorrect.
