I've read through all of the helpful threads detailing mono vs. stereo 45s
between 1968 and 1975, but I couldn't find a thread discussing or listing mono 45s released after 1975, at least not all in one place. These are the only ones I know about, but I imagine there may have been a few more in the late 1970s: Rock This Town- Stray Cats I Don't Know Anybody Else- Black Box I Melt With You- Modern English (I know it's not a Top 40 hit) Do You Love Me- Contours Are there others? For instance, were the 1980s 45 re-releases of "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King and "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles stereo or mono on the 45s? I never owned either. |

I think there was a pretty good thread on this years ago. I'll try to find it and bump it up.
EDIT - I found the previous thread and bumped it up. You'll need to scroll thru it to dig out some pretty good info. Edited by Paul Haney |

Thanks for bumping the other thread. There was some helpful
information in there. Can anyone confirm whether the "oldies" that were reissued and hit the top 40 in the 1980s were stereo or mono on the 45? I know that Do You Love Me was a reissue of the Motown Yesteryear release, so I assume that was mono, but does anyone know about Stand by Me and Twist & Shout? Did the 45s contain the mono or stereo versions of those songs when they were released in the 1980s? Edited by JL328 |

The 80's charted pressings of both "Stand By Me" and
"Twist And Shout" were mono. But when i heard them on the radio at that time I was hearing mostly the stereo versions. I assumed that was because a lot of stations already had the stereo in some form. MM |

Mark, my stock Capitol B-5624 "Twist And Shout" both states and plays stereo. However, the later Capitol S7-17699 "For Jukeboxes Only!" reissue on pink vinyl was, indeed, mono. |

Agreed, on both pressings. The 1986 capitol 45 was stereo, the 1994 pink vinyl 45 was mono. I own both. Stand By Me stated stereo but played on. In the UK, however, they got that reissue in stereo. Edited by TomDiehl1 |

Live in stereo.

Not a vinyl 45 per se, but wasn't the Blackout Allstars'
"I Like It" in mono for single edits? |

Other than '80s hits that were re-releases of '60s hits (usually when '80s movies came out that used them), are these the last 2 mono top 40 hits (in terms of single versions):
Rock This Town- Stray Cats I Don't Know Anybody Else- Black Box Were there any other 1976-1979 singles that haven't been listed here? Edited by EdisonLite |

Thanks for the correction guys. Coulda sworn my copy of Twist And Shout was mono. As for Stand By Me, I remember now I didn't buy the 45 because I was given promo copy of the movie soundtrack. Does anyone know if it was mono on the LP? MM |

"The Beach Boys Medley" from 1981 was mono - the label even states mono. And it wasn't a Top 40 hit, but Keith Richards' cover of "Run Rudolph Run" from 1978 is mixed mono even though the label states stereo.
