Although the database does not mention it, DJ copies of Nelly Furtado f/Timbaland "Promiscuous" contain the "Radio Edit," which runs (3:42). The import CD single also has the "Radio Edit," as does the iTunes music store. Does this qualify for "45 version," given that the edit is commercially available on iTunes?
This may have been answered a long time ago, but how does the database qualify songs that don't have a physical commercial single but are sold via digital downloads? |

If there is no physical commercial single then the digital version that can be purchased on Itunes should be considered the 45 version.

Pat, this title was released as a commercial 12" vinyl single. Do you consider that to be the "official" single?

We all had some discussion about 12-inch singles a while back, and I don't know if we ever reached a concensus.
It seems to me that the top-selling downloaded version as listed on Billboard's Hot Digital Tracks (not Hot Digital Songs, which adds the versions together) is the "hit version," even if it's not the official single version. The Radio Edit of "Gold Digger" was the leadoff track on the 12" single, but the uncensored Album Version was by far the bigger seller as a download. |

That's a great question Paul and if I may paraphrase it you are wondering if there is a 12" single of any given song and also a digital downloadable version, which should determine the designation "45 version"? Personally I would think that the digital downloads these days would outsell the 12" vinyl so I would think the digital download that specifies (single version) would be the appropriate standard. Anyone else care to chime in?

I'd have to agree with you on this one, Pat. It's a digital world we live in today. BTW, I just got my hands on the Nelly Furtado 12" and the first track is the radio edit. |

I also agree that a digital single release for a current Top 40 hit should count as the official 45 version.
