Very true, Pat. It's highly possible those without banter are "neither"
versions. Hopefully someone owns a copy of the dj 45 to verify. In the
meantime, does anyone recall how it was played on the radio, if it
received airplay?

DJ Banter was left off the Polydor promo single. And the local DJ could add it if desired.

But, it wouldn't be the same as on the released record.

When this was a current, most of our Disc Jockeys at WATO 1290 played this promo 45 without the DJ banter, one would do his own version. Late in the run, it was carted and played into it being an oldie that way. WJBE in Knoxville had a special James Brown mix of the song with an extended banter by James which was only available to stations he owned. WNOX 990 played the promo 45 as is as did WFLI 1070 in Chattanooga. Hopefully this will give you some East TN perspective. The several different commercial Polydor 45 singles I have owned, all had the James Brown DJ patter on them we're used to.
