The LP version and 45 version (6:33) are both missing a verse. This verse is found on the 12" disco mix (the one that's 10 minutes long) which is the version I believe they edited down to make the 5:37 mix for the best of album. However, there is also a very elusive FULL LENGTH version of the 6:33 album mix that runs about a minute longer and includes that final verse that is otherwise only on the 10 minute disco mix. The only place I've ever found the 'full length' album mix is on the 4-CD set "Back to the 80's: The Long Versions Volume 2" released by Sony music, which is, sadly, out of print and now going for like 200 dollars on the Amazon marketplace.

Getting back to the original subject...

My "Platinum Collection" version runs (3:47), and features a different intro than my 45 does, while my "Best Of Blondie" CD version runs (4:41), and DOES feature the same intro as my 45. My 45's deadwax is "CHS-2410-AS". Does anyone else happen to have a stock and/or a promo 45, with an actual time closer to my "listed" (3:48) 45 time, like the version on the "Platinum Collection" CD?

I have 2 copies of this single, a stock copy and a promo, both are Chrysalis CHS-2410.

The commercial copy is the same as yours...it has the "three blind mice" intro and essentially the same structure as what's on the greatest hits vinyl (with the bass guitar/drum solo bridge edited)(intro time :43).

The promo copy has a listed & actual time of 3:48, and does not have the "three blind mice" part on the intro (intro time is :30).
The song structure has also been re-arranged somewhat. The chorus & instrumental bridge at the end of the first verse is repeated, and there seems to be a longer fade. It may be a different chorus than what's on the commercial single...it sounds like the 2nd verse from the GH. The repeat chorus sounds very tacked-on. Deadwax matrix # is CHS-2410-AS-1A on the stereo side & CHS-2410-AM-1C on the mono side. Other than being in mono, I didn't notice a difference between the 2 sides of the promo 45.

I don't have the Platinum Collection to compare it with, only the vinyl "Best of Blondie" which seems to be the same version as Jim's CD.

FYI, the shorter 3:17 45 version of "Atomic" cannot be created from the "Best Of Blondie" CD version. (I presume this is the standard album version from "Eat To The Beat.")

I have both the "Eat To The Beat" U.S. pressing vinyl LP (actual 4:38/listed 4:35) and the "Best Of Blondie" vinyl LP. (but this is a Japanese pressing.) Those versions are identical.

original LP & 45 version
12" mix
promo 45 version (edit of 12" mix)
Best Of Blondie version (different edit of 12" mix)

One interesting point about the promo mix.

The bells and whistles show up during the first long rap. I remember the Best of ... version, and I think the 12" don't start the bells and whistles until the rap has concluded.

So that means that while the promo and Best Of vesrions are alternative edits of the 12", the promo is distinctly a different mix, no?

This shorter version of "Atomic" running (3:17) has yet to be released on a commercial CD correct?

I haven't found it on CD; however, since it's not detailed in the database, it could possibly appear somewhere. It might also have been released on an import CD.
