Don't have the answer, but I do have another question. Was there an alternate mix of this song around during its chart run? ISTR hearing one that seemed to have a more pronounced drum track on it.

The 45 is an edit and early fade of the LP version. Here
are the edit points (using the Sony "Hits of 1984" CD as the source): - Starting at the downbeat at 2:06.9, delete through the equivalent downbeat at 2:25.5 - On the resulting shortened file, delete from 3:55 to the end (technically I show the end of the fade as 3:54.5 on my version). - Start the fade at about the 3:40 mark on the shortened file |
