my commercial cassingle issued as arista 12654 does not list a version nor run time but is actually the full length cd/lp version which runs 3:54.....there is a shorter 3:45 running length db entry and my speculation is that the crickets during the fade out are faded out extra early....

I think I have the promo CD to this song somewhere. If I find it, I'll post details. I suspect the early faded version was on the promo CD, since I do not recall the sound effects at the end being heard on the air back in 1994.

As it turns out, the CD single we had in the air studio, which I snagged after we stopped playing it, was a 3-track commercial Arista single with no artwork. Apparently, we must have always started the next song before you could hear the crickets, because even my TM Century GoldDisc runs an actual 3:52 with the crickets on the end.

My US ARISTA 3-track CD single (07822-12666-2) includes the album mix of MMM MMM MMM MMM but runs just ever so slightly faster than it does on the God Shuffled His Feet CD. Just about 9.7% faster, to be exact. Very subtle difference and otherwise, apart from the audio level and the fadeout on the crickets sound effects at the end, the mastering on the single seems pretty much identical to the album version.

I assume you mean .97% and not 9.7%, which would certainly be approaching Chipmunk speeds!

In the "change speed" fuction on audacity, I raised the speed of the album version by 0.097 to match the CD single. I figured to convert 0.097 to a percentage would mean simply multiplying it by 100 which is 9.7%. Apologies if that was the cause of confusion.

Ok, then the speed change is even smaller. I just did the same in Cool Edit Pro, and the CD single is 0.103% faster, which is pretty insignificant. By the end of the song, the two files are only out of sync by about 2/10 of a second.

All the versions I have are either 92.9 BPM or 93.0 BPM. (Live drummer playing to a click track.)

Most definitely an insignificant difference. |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
