Saw a listing for a radio edit of this song running 4:27 or so. Anyone know how to recreate it?

It's not indicated in the database, but I just acquired a promo cd single of this song. Mercury CDP 997, Track 1 is the Radio Edit. Listed and actual time is 4:29. Track 2 is the LP version, though I haven't timed it. Listed time is 5:33.

Bumping this up because I'm a fan of that whole album, how would one go
about recreating this. I would assume the mandolin coda is taken out.

Don't recall all the edit points offhand, but the intro is
also shortened.

I have this CD single. Listed time is 4:29, when put into iTunes the time is
4:33. The intro does not seem shortened - both the LP and this edit sound
the same at the beginning and John starts singing at @ 27 seconds in on
both versions. Mercury 862 771-2. Made in Europe. Could not even begin to
tell you where the edit points are, sorry.

Turns out there was the Radio Edit, the A/C mix, and a CHR
edit. Not sure of the differences between them.

My 45 RPM vinyl single, Mercury 422-862702, has the LP version on Side 1 and the (Edit) on Side 2. The time on Side 2 is listed as 4:29, but the actual time is 4:27. It was typical of vinyl singles to run a couple seconds shorter than their CD or cassette single counterparts.-Bill.

The Radio Edit and CHR mix are the same mix wise, but the latter(as well as
the AC Mix) is mastered louder.

The AC Mix is radically different in the following ways:

The electric guitars have all but disappeared, save for the choruses, and even
then they are mixed way low. You can hear them in the interlude, but the
backwards guitar noise that appears before the final verse has been muted.

The acoustic instruments are brought up in the mix, as is John's voice so you
can understand every syllable he sings. This is especially noticeable during the
last line of the second verse. The word "seed" is barely audible in the LP/Single
versions.

Kenny Aronoff's drums sound louder with more reverb, but whether that's a
result of remixing them or of the natural room ambience we're hearing from
raising them up in the mix is unknown.

Now for the edits:

Cut from 1:30 to 1:43 so the pre-verse interlude starts with the mandolin.

Cut from 3:35 to 3:39

Cut 4:50 to 5:04.

The ending mandolin coda is cut by fading early at 5:16 and lasting for 6
seconds.

Now it's time to crossfade

Crossfade from 2:58 to 3:18

Crossfade from 4:36 to 4:49

And lastly, there's some resequencing.

Take 1:24 to 1:28 and paste it after 5:10

Take 5:01 to 5:03 and paste after 5:14

Take 5:10 to 5:13 and paste it after the previous paste job.

And there you have it. Not easy at all, but doable .
