Regarding "Someday"... I remember hearing both versions on the radio, but the video was something else entirely. A bit of a hybrid version, largely based on the 7" Jackswing remix with one edit, BUT it features tons of additional overdubs, many from the album version or from Shep Pettibone's similar sounding 7" Straight version.

Was this exact version available on any of the audio releases? It's much fuller sounding than the 7" Jackswing found on the maxi-single.

I should add that the First Vision home video release used a lengthier 12" version of the video instead of this concise version found now on Vevo and aired back in 1990 on MTV.

Subsequent video release #1's used the Unplugged performance of the song instead of the actual video.

I have not had the chance to compare but from the reasearch I've done
it seems as though the short version of the video used the "new 7"
jackswing" version. The long video used the 12" jackswing track.
Supposedly the mixes of these two tracks are not exactly the same.

Has anyone listened to Mariah's "#1 To
Infinity" yet? I am curious if there is
anything unique on this besides how Sony
Legacy screwed up "I'll Be There." In
paricular, I wonder if "Someday" is the LP
version again. I have been checking the
database regularly, but the disc
information isn't entered. Is this an
import disc meaning it won't be entered?

I just sampled the disc online and it features the MTV
Unplugged version of "Someday."

Thank you for letting me know. For me,
that means they missed an opportunity with
"Someday" and messed up "I'll Be There."
In my opinion of course.

My radio station played the "New 7" Straight". I never
heard the "New 7" Jackswing" on the radio.

I would concur with the New 7 Straight being played in NY. It has what I call more "kick" to the song and closer to what I remember hearing back then. The more I listen to it, the more I can hear why someone would play it over the LP.
Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

Back in those days, I remember Mariah's end whistle
note being at full volume on the radio and not fading
until after she completed the note. I was surprised
when I got the album that it faded during her whistle
note at the end. At the time, I did not put it
together that the version that I heard on the radio
(New 7" Straight) was actually a remix.

For her 30th anniversary, Mariah has been releasing a
bunch of digital EPs, including one for "Someday",
making these rare mixes available on paid digital
download sites for the first time. Qobuz has them in
supposed 24-bit/44k audio. Worth checking out if you
want to add them to your collection.
