For sure. It depends on which stations you were listening to at the time. Don't even get me started on the rap vs. no rap versions of various pop hits! |

It's possibly a toss up on which version CHR stations played, but as far as I know, none of the remixes were ever released commercially. For Pat's database purposes, the LP version is the official single version, while the remixes are DJ versions.

I made reference to the Chicago-like horns earlier this year. I looked and found
the person who mixed the song was none other than Humberto Gatica, who mixed, among other bands, Chicago. |

And as the decade rolled on and digital editing software became affordable for even small-market stations, more and more "house" edits/remixes were aired. As a music director for much of that decade I produced my share of 'em for our stations. |

I always heard the LP version on the radio. But some years later I found a promo CD single which included an AC remix, which left out the electric guitar solo in the instrumental section. I actually liked the instrumental section with the elec guitar, but felt the LP version was hotter overall (which I liked) so I made my own edit that used the LP version but went to the AC (no elec guitar instrumental) for just the instrumental section.

It's tough. I'm glad you found a compromise, the AC mix is actually quite enjoyable. I'm still going to say the edit/remix is the version that got the most airplay. Sadly this song does not get played enough that I could catch what version they played. Typical of this type of song. A fairly religious song going top 10 like this in 2020? Not likely. |

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

I read my post you quoted, and there was a typo. It doesn't make sense the way I wrote it. I meant to say "I actually liked the instrumental section withOUT the elec guitar".
That would better explain why I made an edit of that section and included it in the LP mix :) |
