Volume three of “The Lost 45s” of the 70s and 80s will be released this summer and it was worth the wait. This time we have a jam packed disc with twenty much sought after single versions. Collectors will find many rare single edits (like Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” and Cliff Richard’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore”) plus several unique 45 versions that differ from the LP version (like Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by Police and Eruption’s remake of “I Can’t Stand The Rain”). Some tracks make their US CD debut (like “Anything You Want” by John Valenti and “Don’t Hold Back” by Chanson). Hear every song like you first heard it on the radio or on your turntable. You won’t get the same tired songs you get on other compilations. Instead, we’ve hand picked hard to find gems seldom heard, but not forgotten, by Stallion, Player, Peter Wolf, Rick Springfield and Gerry Rafferty just to name a few. Every track is the original hit version and has been superbly mastered from the original master tapes. With an eight page booklet, including pictures plus extensive liner notes on each song and artist, this is one disc you will want to add to your collection and play over and over again. |

OMG! Stallion AND John Valenti? I think I just died and went to heaven. I never thought either of those songs would see the light of day on CD. Thanks for the great news!

Did you also see the last line on the original post:
April Fools! Too bad, it sounded like a terrific CD! |

Well, the last line doesn't really indicate the post is an April Fools joke.
But I did see the April 1 date before reading the whole post, so I figured as much. Erie sure went to a lot of trouble compiling all that info for an April Fools joke. It certainly did seem too good to be true. Now, someone should contact Barry Scott and tell him to actually release this CD!! Sure, Varese Sarabande won't do it but maybe he can get another label to do it. And Mark, Greg Guidry's "Goin' Down" IS available on CD - an out of print Japanese various-artist comp called "Very Best of AOR", which I happen to have, my friend :) |

Wow. What an elaborate hoax. My mouth was watering when I read the
track listing. Guess Barry or someone else punked us. |

I meant the last line of the original post (as it appeared on the BSN message board), it actually said: April Fools! Now, if that doesn't indicate it's a joke, then I don't know what does! |

It wasn't Barry. I wrote Barry about this Aprils Fools post and suggested he actually pursue releasing such a CD. I gave him a link to this page, and here's his response: <Wow. That was a cool list! I don’t have much time to contact any labels, but if you let them know—I can certainly work on this with them. Great track listing…it contained a few of the songs on my ‘most wanted’ list!> |

Quick call Bill Buster. Maybe between Bill and Barry they can convince
someone at Universal to open their vault(s) and make this a true release. |

Good luck convincing Bill Buster of that. From the above list, I can tell you I've already tried to convince him to release Stallion and the Police single mix of "Every Little Thing..." on CD (along with some other suggestions) and he shot every song down - including Al Wilson's #3 R&B/#27 pop hit "I've Got a Feeling" and Irene Cara's Top 20 hit "Out Here On My Own" - the version with full orchestra. He told me there was virtually no interest. He even went to YouTube to check on "Out Here On My Own" views. The number was over 1.3 million views. He said that just doesn't indicate there's enough interest in the song, to him. This really surprised me because he recently reissued Five Flights Up "Do What You Wanna Do" (which had 20,000 YouTube views) and Avante-Garde's "Naturally Stoned" (which had 20,000 YouTube views). So I thought the 1.3 million YouTube views for Irene Cara was a lot more than 20,000 and would only prove my point. But it didn't. He just reiterated "no interest".
As for the Police, he thought it would probably need to get Sting's approval - and that may well be - but why not request the license from Universal and have them ask for Sting's approval? The only real difference in the single mix is that Sting's voice is much more audible, whereas it's buried in the album mix, and I can't imagine Sting wouldn't want a version released where you can actually hear his vocals.
