Playing devil's advocate to the last post...
I am well under 45, know the Stallion song (but not from 1977), and would be the second in line to buy a CD with the song on it. iTunes and Amazon did a pretty nice job releasing those "Lost Hits of the [Decade]" compilations. I don't know how well those sell (or what the source of those songs is--- many may be vinyl), but I snatched those things up as soon as I found them. I think that a song like this (and frankly all the songs listed in the first post) would sell well enough online to justify a digital CD at the very least. They must sell enough to break even, I'd guess. |

Those iTunes-only "Lost Hits of the '70s" and "Lost Hits of the '80s" (each with two volumes) were released by Capitol/EMI in 2010 (before Capitol was bought by Universal) and come from their master tapes in the vaults - not vinyl. I think it would be great if Universal did the same thing - also Sony and WB. But Universal is the label most in need of something like this. They have LOTS of singles and single mixes that they've just never released in any digital format.

To Edison Lite:
I'm pretty sure that JL328 was talking about a *different* 'Lost Hits Of The...' series. Ya know, the one with Gene Redding's "This Heart" with a stylus skip... [ouch!] Andy |

Where exactly is the skip on "This Heart"?

To EdisonLite:
I don't remember, I deleted the file! For more info search this messageboard for Gene Redding; Bill Cahill & I both commented on it a couple years back. Andy |

OK, I did a search on Gene Redding (found the post by typing it into a search for "Message Body", not "Topic Subject"). In there, Mark M points out that the file has been replaced in iTunes, spotify, and everywhere with a flawless copy from master tape. I agree. I got this just a few months ago and there was no evidence of any vinyl (even when studying it closely under headphones) and nothing skipped! So I'd say EMI/Capitol replaced it - probably not because of it being from vinyl but probably because of the obvious skip that must have been on the previous file, causing many purchases to complain.
