So it seems to take me three months to crank through a year of chart entries...

Updated to include 1974.

1974

Ron, thanks as always for posting this invaluable info!

I know that the lower chart dregs are starting to get tougher for you, but I sincerely hope that you'll at least consider doing everything that hit the Top 40 (or Top 50) for each year going backwards in time.

I notice you're missing a couple promo edits from '74:

"You & Me Against The World"-Helen Reddy (no child's voice)
"Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing"-Stevie Wonder (no spoken
gibberish on intro)

Lemme know if you need dubs...

Yes - please send.

Removing the chatter would most certainly help the Helen Reddy song, but would drain some of the fun out of Stevie's song.

I have "Tin Man" on AM Gold 1974, labeled as the 45
version with no crossover from the previous song.
I don't believe the 45 had the crossover.

I believe that the 45 did have the crossover, but I don't have the vinyl to confirm. I know that some of the other tracks on the History album were remixed for that album.

For America's "Tin Man", the following discs all use the same analog transfer as History America's Greatest Hits (copyright 1975):
  • Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 15 1974 Take Two (1991) - differently-EQ'd digital clone
  • Time-Life's AM Gold Vol. 21 1974 (1996) - digitally exactly 1.2 dB louder than 1974 Take Two
  • Reader's Digest's 4-CD American Pie (1998)
  • Time-Life's 2-CD Singers And Songwriters Vol. 15 The '70s (2001) - digitally exactly 0.438 dB louder than 1974 Take Two
  • Time-Life's 2-CD Classic Soft Rock Vol. 1 Summer Breeze (2006) - differently-EQ'd digital clone

Would the AM Gold 1974 listing then be considered to be
neither the 45 or LP version?

So why not swap the child's part on the Reddy record with Stevie's spoken bit and vice versa? Double the fun! ;)

Great work, Ron!

And yes, "Tin Man" definitely has the segue vestiges left at the beginning of the 45. I put my foot in my mouth over that same assertion in an earlier thread, as in "listen first, then post.

Slow going for 1973; apparently I had a lot of other stuff going on from May to November.

Updated to include 1973:

1973

I've updated all the lists from 1973-1998, too. (Links above.)

Up next: I'm going to go through the '80s top 40 hits (not the whole Hot 100) and make sure my notation is consistent with the database. 1972 will wait a little while.
