Okay, so the 45 remix version of "I Can't Go for That" is not available on any domestic CDs. Anyone know of any imports that have it?

Brian:
To date, I'm not aware of the 45 remix appearing anywhere on CD, which is unfortunate. The 12-inch version of "I Can't Go For That" however is available on CD, which as Pat points out is the basis of the 45 version. The best sounding CD appearance of the 12-inch version by far is on Hall & Oates' Private Eyes disc (BMG Heritage 58615) which was remastered and expanded earlier this year. When I get a chance, I'm going to use a digital editing software program on my computer to attempt to recreate the 45 version from this 12-inch mix and then burn it to CD! |

Another H&O 45 remix which has never appeared on CD in any country is "I Don't Wanna Lose You" from "Along the Red Ledge". Great song. Much better mix than the album version. But the CD releases always go with the album version.

Yeah, I may have to buy the 45 and give that a shot as well. I've done that with many songs that haven't showed up on CD in their 45 versions -- House of the Rising Sun, Let's Go Crazy, Me and Bobby McGee, One of These Nights, I Can't Stop Loving You... lots of others. Unfortunately, it's not quite possible to recreate the 45 edit of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" from the 12" mix, which is what it's an edit of, because there's one point that is mixed differently on the 45, where the second verse is cut out. So the 45 is technically a separate mix, not just an edit of the dance mix. Hmm, I gotta post my complete list of Michael Jackson 45 versions on CD soon... |

To my ears, the 12" mix is a dedicated mix with a heavier dose of low end, a bit less echo and a bit less compression.

So is the "official" 45 of I Can't Go For That an edit of the 12 version?
The database lists several CDs with "45 Version" of this song. Does that mean that the edits are the same as the 45 version, but that the mix is not the true 45 mix on these CDs? |

Ed, I think the dj copy of "I Can't Go For That" is causing some confusion on my part as it has 2 different versions of this song it. The version that I have been using as my standard "45 version" runs 3:39 but the version you are calling the "45 version" I think is on the flip side of my dj 45, runs 3:50 and is called the "club mix". Does the commercial 45 label state it is the "club mix"?
