question for the group.....i own the commercial cd single for the janet jackson song "i get lonely" issued as virgin 38631 and it contains the below tracks
1-tnt remix edit (featuring blackstreet)(4:16) 2-lp edit (4:02) 3-jam & lewis feel my bass mix-radio edit (4:02) the db states the 45 version runs about 4:00 in length, which would correspond the track 2 on the cd single.......should the 45 version be the version issued as track one on the format at the time, in this case the cd single?....i think the d/b should be updated to list the tnt remix edit featuring blackstreet as the 45 version.....does anyone remember which version was played most on the radio back in mid 1998, when this song peaked at number 3 on the charts......anyone want to chime in |

That's interesting, Brian, because your description does not match my US commercial 7-inch single (Virgin 38631) at all. Both the sleeve and the label of my 45 list the "TNT Remix Edit" as "Side 1" and the "Jam & Lewis Feel My Bass Mix - Radio Edit" as "Side 2". The "LP Edit" does not appear on my 45.
The version I recall hearing on the radio featured BLACKstreet, who appear only on the "TNT Remix Edit". Both the database and the Hot 100 credit the song to "Janet featuring BLACKstreet". Furthermore, the Hot 100 lists Teddy Riley as one of the producers, and he only co-produced the "TNT Remix Edit". I don't have either of the CDs currently listed in the database as containing the "45 version", but according to another board the "Number Ones" CD contains the "LP Edit". |

DOH! You're absolutely correct, Paul. I not only was looking at the label of an import 45 on Ebay, but misreading the back of the US picture sleeve as well. Guess I need to get more sleep!

Just listened to a sample of the Number Ones version and it's definitely not with Blackstreet.

The version on Janet's Number Ones release is the LP Edit version included as track 2 on the commercial single. This was also the main video version of the song (though there was also a video for the remix featuring BlackStreet.) A similar situation occurred with a later Janet single, the 2002 release "Someone To Call My Lover". The commercial single featured a So So Def remix as the lead track despite the Single Edit (of the LP version) being the dominant hit on both radio stations and video networks. Confusing stuff when going by the criteria we like to use for determining hit versions of songs. |

the cassingle also has the 'tnt remix edit' as the first
track.....so it would make sense that this version would be the single version, no? |
