Does anyone know if a DJ edit exists for Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us in Two"? The 10th edition doesn't mention anything about one, but I seem to recall hearing a shorter version on the radio than the one I'm accustomed to seeing on CD running 4:47-4:52.

I'm sure a shorter version also exists (one that edits out everything from the second line of the instrumental break to the final "Could we be much closer if we tried" line). I remember it being played on AT40 back in the day.

Attention, jimct:

You mentioned in a previous thread that you specialize in DJ promo 45s. Do you have a DJ 45 of Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us in Two" and, if so, could you tell us what is the actual run time on your copy?

Thanks much, and welcome to the message board!

I own the domestic USA promo 45, but I don't have time to listen to it right now.

One side is labelled 4:57 (album version).

Other side is labelled 3:48 (edited version).

Thanks, Todd for the welcome - right in my wheelhouse...since Andy just posted the correct listed DJ 45 times, I will simply add that the (3:48) short side is a rarity, in that the actual run time is just (3:42).

That edit should be a snap to recreate from the LP version. It cuts out most of the instrumental break in the middle.

Jim, could you time the long version of this song on your dj copy as my commercial copy runs (4:46) not (4:57) as stated on the record label.

Pat: When my long DJ timing of "Breaking Us In Two" came in at (4:44), I was surprised that those last 3 seconds weren't there. To be sure, I stop-watched it a second time, making sure I got EVERY milli-second of fade (which I always try to do anyway.) Nope, it's definitely (4:44). Just reporting the facts... (PS - deadwax says "A&M-AM-02510A-Long - P1")

I agree, but I always thought the edit sounded awkward. You could've made a better edit by just excising the instrumental break and bridge and verse leading up to it.

I may try that--one of these days (of course, I'd also have to try to create the edit as it actually was as well). :)

I've seen a number of cases in the database where the DJ copies of a song may differ from its commercial 45 release by several seconds. Sounds like this may be such a case with "Breaking Us in Two".

Thanks for helping solve another mystery, guys!
