Here are instructions for creating the 45 edit from the LP version on Control:

Keep 0:00.0-0:01.2 of the LP version. That's "Gimme a beat."
Edit out the silence between 0:01.2-0:01.4. That's right - the 45 tightens up the gap between "Gimme a beat" and said beat. It's actually about 0.24 seconds of audio that's removed.
Keep the 8 beats between 0:01.4-0:06.1.
Edit on downbeat.
Remove the 8 beats from 0:06.1-0:10.7.
Keep the 2 beats from 0:10.7-0:11.3.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 8 beats from 0:11.3-0:15.9.
Keep the 8 beats from 0:15.9-0:20.6.
Edit on snare.
Remove the 16 beats from 0:20.6-0:29.8.
Keep 0:29.8-4:03.4 (end) of LP version.

Your mixdown will have edits at 0:01.2, 0:05.8, 0:06.4 and 0:11.1, and will run 3:44.6.

The true 45 and the Control CD version run about the same speed, at 103.7 or 103.8 BPM.

As discussed in another thread, the exact 45 version of "Nasty" can't be re-created from the LP version, because of a "wind" sound effect on the LP version that isn't on the 45. The sound effect is somewhere near the 2 1/2 minute mark right before the line "Nastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy boys."

I just edited my post and added the extra "y." Good catch, Brian!

For some reason, this post shows up on a search for "nasty" but not "janet nasty" or "janet jackson nasty". Odd.

I wasted a bunch of time recreating the 45 edit, which is detailed above, only to realize the 45 is a very slight remix of the LP version. I think the drums on the 45 have more effects on them than the LP version. To my ears, they're just "bigger" on the 45. At the waveform level, it looks to me like the attack on the snare is shaped a little differently, with a little more sustain, but I'd like a second opinion.

By the way, the true 45 mix (if it is indeed a different mix) is on The "A" List Disc 33, which uses the same analog transfer as GoldDisc 936, only with its absolute polarity inverted. Both run at 103.8 BPM throughout, both appear to have noise reduction, and I'd guess that both are originally taken from vinyl. These two match my 45 exactly.

The 45 mix can be found on this German compilation as
well. It is definitely not taken from vinyl, no noise
reduction, sibilance or background noise.
