I'll go with the 80s too, even though I'm on the older end of the boomer scale, and was in my 30s that decade.

I'd be one of those that would need to cite 1976 to 1986 as my favourite date range. I liked the mix of light rock, hard rock, pop, urban and dance tracks through that period.

The 80s was incredible (and well marketed!) but is beginning to be burned out.

I'm increasingly appreciating the 1990s (a chaotic chart and genre decade) due to nostalgia.

The early 2000s were the worst.

Oh I'd disagree. At the beginning, it seemed like a continuation of the late 90s, but as the decade moved on, I found that there was some REALLY great music in the 2000s, and it became its own.

For me, the 2000s was the first decade whereby FM radio was NOT the way I was exposed to new music. Instead, my Swedish friend Hannah got me following the Toplistann chart. I was exposed to more European and lesser known American acts (like Anastacia for example). I loved Evanesence, September, Junior Senior, Lily Allen, Sarah Barelleis, Daniel and Natasha Beddingfield, Coldplay, Shakira, Rufus Wainwright, ... so many.

I'm not voting in this poll because I simply couldn't choose between the 70s and 80s (like choosing a favorite child). My favorite 10-year period for music is 1975-84 (which is an even split). Starting with 1980, I find that each year I go forward and go backward, my interest gets to be a little less and less. That said, I can find great songs in ANY decade of music along with plenty of dreck.

1970s for me. Very diverse decade with Top40 playing Pop, Rock, Country, R&B... I also like the country genre from that decade (George Jones, Ronnie Milsap, Tammy Wynette, Statler Brothers). My all time favorite artist is Elvis and I actually prefer the material he was releasing in the 70s the best out of his career.
