kodamar, you are correct, as I also have that TM disc in my collection. Track 1 is labeled as "single edit" on the GoldDisc, which, as chendagam notes above, is different from the 7" Edit.

Just to clarify, track one of the above promo CD single DOES have a rap, from 1:48 until 2:19. Perhaps Chendagam's post that the "7" edit" does NOT have the rap could be attributed to the fact that the label-less shorter version we received, and were told by Arista was the "no rap edit", might "officially" be shown as the "7" edit" on labelled copies. I believe the "7" edit" and the "no rap edit" to be the same version. It appears that the rap version IS on CD, both on my promo and Aaron's TM Century disc.

You are correct. I was going from memory, as all my station's TM discs have been retired to the locked closet since the hard drive started spinning... It was found that too many of them were growing legs after hours.

So as a DJ would you switch over because it's the lastest version sent to you or just because of preference?

During those years, we and many other Top 40 stations would almost always opt for a "no rap" version of big hit records. Not true anymore, but at the time there was still a perceived "discomfort" level among 35+ adult listeners, regarding raps. Chendagam, I can tell you're a big fan of the "with rap" versions. But with pro radio, it's always about ratings - nothing else. We didn't want the "Soccer Moms" to change the channel. As a result - we went with the no rap versions.

I believe this version is on Billboard Top Hits 1993, but double check before purchasing.

I made a mistake on this. The "7" Edit" does in fact have the rap in it. It appeared commercially on an import CD. The difference is that the intro is a bit longer and it has a cold ending with the "slamming doors" sound effect. On the version on my cassette single, the intro is shorter with a fade out. Actual run times are 3:43 on the 7" edit and 3:49 on the cassette. Does anyone have more infomation on this?

I agree. I was music director of a small-market CHR thru much of the 90s, and we were VERY cautious about anything too "urban sounding". In several cases, we made our own rapless edits of songs that either didn't come with one or we were unable to get serviced with. We'd often play the unedited version at night when it was mostly teens listening.
